Here's the deal, Emmanuel cares about one thing more than anything else, Jesus Christ. Emmanuel is a family of individuals that have found hope in Jesus, and simply want as many people as possible to experience that exact same freedom.
In 1908, visionaries from the First Baptist Church of Gloversville conceived the idea of establishing a second Baptist church in the community. Emmanuel Baptist Church was officially organized on June 11, 1909, and its name was chosen on August 19 of the same year. Rev. Charles led the inaugural congregation of 99 members, hailing from First Baptist and other Baptist churches.
By August 1914, the construction of Emmanuel's church building was completed, dedicating it to the Lord's service. Over the following 81 years, the church was shepherded by 14 pastors, maintaining a steadfast ministry in Gloversville and extending its reach globally through missionary work.
In 1995, Pastor Ellis took the helm and served for an unprecedented 27 years, retiring on July 31, 2022. Under his leadership, Emmanuel celebrated its centennial in 2009, participating in Gloversville's 4th of July festivities with Pastor Ellis as the Grand Marshall.
As of August 1, 2022, the church welcomed a new chapter with Pastor Douglas VanNostrand taking on the role of Lead Pastor. Prior to this, he served as Assistant Pastor since February 1, 2021. Pastor Doug brings with him a Master of Divinity from Liberty University and is currently pursuing a PhD in Biblical Exposition. His passion for teaching, preaching, and discipling aims to continue Emmanuel's legacy of spiritual growth and community impact.
More than ever, Emmanuel Baptist Church is committed to fostering a family built around Christ. And as we move forward as a church family, a sense of family, and belonging, remain at the center of who we are as followers of Christ.
What does this mean for you? Most importantly, you're always welcome at Emmanuel Baptist Church. We're saving a seat for you. Wherever you're at in your faith, you'll always be welcome as part of the EBC family as we all walk together in obedience to Christ.
